Careers in Diplomacy – Thursday, 6 August, 1pm in the Glass Hall
Mr. Yo-Jung Chen, the Deputy Consul, Press Attaché and Head of the Press and Commnication Department at the French Embassy in Singapore will speak about his career. Mr. Chen has a Taiwanese father and a Vietnamese mother, and was educated in Mandarin in Taiwan and later in Japanese at Keio University in Tokyo. He became a French citizen while working at the French embassy in Tokyo and now works for the French Foreign Service. He will talk about his experiences in diplomacy, with the press, and on multilingualism and intercultural issues
All students in Grades 9 – 12 are invited to hear his talk. It should be of particular interest to anyone considering a career in media or public service.
Higher Education Studies in France – Tuesday, 11 August, 12.55pm in the Glass Hall
The Head of CampusFrance, Singapore, and the Attaché for the Promotion of French Language at the French Embassy will speak about Higher Education studies in France (including programmes in English) and holiday French courses. All students in Grades 7 – 12 and parents are invited to attend.
SAT Reasoning Test
Information about the SAT Reasoning Test was sent to Tutor Groups last Friday. The registration deadline for the 5 December test is 30 October but it is best to register early to ensure you get your choice of test centre. Note that the test date is at the end of the first week of the December holidays so check your travel plans carefully! Registration forms for the TestTakers course at school are available from Angeline Wong at Reception. And a reminder that this is only one option – prepare for the test in the way that suits you best.
Trinity College Young Leaders Holiday Programme
Trinity College at Melbourne University runs a programme for 15 – 17 year old students in our December holidays. The curriculum focuses on developing leadership skills, including public speaking, better problem solving skills, and team building skills, as well as the opportunity to choose an “Elective World”. With Grade 12 Mock Exams and Grade 11 Challenge Week around the corner, please take note of the presentations until the half-term break and plan ahead. Unfortunately university admissions representatives have their own schedules, which clash with ours at times but there are some presentations you should not miss.

• the UK – UCL on 18 August.
• Canada - Humber on 25 August and UBC on 27 August.
• a degree programme with more accessible entry requirements – Humber on 25 August.
• Oxford or Cambridge applicants – a reminder that your application is due to me by Monday, 7 September (immediately after the holiday)
Thursday, 13 August, 1 pm in the Glass Hall- NUS Business School. Representatives from the NUS Business School will give a presentation on their programmes and pursuing business as a discipline. They offer a variety of undergraduate programmes and concurrent Masters programmes. See http://bschool.nus.edu.sg/ for more information.
Tuesday, 18 August, 1pm in Science Lab 6 – University College London, UK. Penny Zorbas, who spoke at school last year as well, will talk about UCL as well as give advice on writing personal statements in general. She has promised to show examples of what to avoid in personal statements.
Tuesday, 25 August, 1pm in Science Lab 6 – Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, Canada. Humber offers degree programmes in a number of areas and has more accessible entry requirements - minimum IB Diploma scores of 24 will be considered, but scores of 28 or higher are recommended. See www.humber.ca for more information. Note that Humber has more accessible entry requirements.
Thursday, 27 August, 1pm in Science Lab 6 – University of British Columbia, Canada. Håkan Björn will speak about the programmes at UBC as well as scholarship opportunities at UBC.
