NEXT WEEK

University of San Francisco, US
Thursday, October 1, Science Lab 6 at 1pm

USF (http://www.usfca.edu/) is a Jesuit university in San Francisco. USF views the IB curriculum as the most challenging preparation for American-style university education and the average score for students that are offered admission is roughly 34 points. USF awards 10 university credits for each IB HL exam score of 4 or higher. Therefore an IB diploma graduate could graduate in 3 years, rather than the normal 4 years. International students are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships but can save a year's worth of fees by completing the IB Diploma. Jason Opdyke, Associate Director of International Admission at USF, will talk about the programmes and admissions at USF.

SAT
A reminder that Grade 11 students who are planning to study in the US are recommended to take the SAT Reasoning Test on December 5. That leaves Grade 12 for a retake and/or the SAT Subject Tests if necessary. The registration deadline for the December test is October 30 but test centres in Singapore fill up fast so you should register as soon as possible to ensure you get a convenient centre. Note that December 5 is in our holiday and if you will not be in Singapore but still want to take the test you can select a test centre overseas.

You need to register for the SAT yourself at www.collegeboard.com. The SJII CEEB code is 687006.

If you want to take the TestTakers SAT preparation course at SJII collect a registration form from Angeline Wong at Reception and send your registration directly to TestTakers. Note that this is only one option – you are advised to prepare for the SAT Reasoning test but it is not necessary to take this or any other class. Prepare in any way that suits you best.
